Jamaican proverbs date back as early as the 16th century. Our ancestors used proverbs to express their thoughts in patois (patwa). Jamaican proverbs highlight humor and aspirations as a source of warning and advice to their family and peers. Today proverbs are still used in our households, passed down from generation to generation.
